The less windows you have on your screen, the more comfortable your work will be, especially when it comes to working on emails and other online contents. Based on Mozilla's source code, the SeaMonkey project aims to bring the functionality of a web browser, RSS feed reader, IRC and mail clients and of an HTML editor into one package. Rather than relying on multiple tools for browsing your favorite websites or reading the latest news, you can use a single tool for all these purposes.

At its core, SeaMonkey is a web browser, which provides a user friendly interface and familiar controls. You can use the same field to input a web address or keywords to perform a web search, visit multiple pages on separate tabs, bookmark pages and so on. Just like in other popular browsers, bookmarks can be displayed on a bar, directly on the main user interface or managed on a separate window. What's more, the browser allows you to import bookmarks and synchronize them with other SeaMonkey installations over the Internet.

Other tools can be accessed immediately, on separate windows, by clicking a series of icons, located on the lower edge of the browser's interface. You can bring up additional browser windows, but it is also possible to open a feed reader, a text and HTML editor, a contacts manager and others. The feed reader looks and behaves like other similar tools, but due to its integration with the web browser, subscribing to new feeds is much easier. Instead of combing a website for a URL, you can simply click an option, in the Bookmarks menu, to subscribe to a feed.

Besides its familiar functions, the feed reader comes with an option for composing emails. You can set up a mail, Unix Mailspool, blog or news groups account and use it to compose, send and receive messages. Alternatively, you can chat with your friends in real time with the ChatZilla IRC client, which is included in the SeaMonkey package. Another useful feature is the possibility of organizing contacts in an address book. The same option for composing emails can be found in the address book, but you can also find options for sending instant messages via ChatZilla or external applications.

Pros

SeaMonkey includes a web browser, mail and IRC clients, a feed reader and an HTML editor. The available tools can be accessed without any difficulties and their controls are easy to understand. What's more, the package is offered free of charge, for multiple operating systems.

Cons

A quick dial would be a welcome addition to the web browser. SeaMonkey's flexibility and rich functionality make it an ideal tool for any Internet user.
